What is BARD? An introduction to Lombard
Lombard builds products and infrastructure around using bitcoin in on-chain finance. Project materials cover bitcoin-representing assets, cross-chain transfers, and DeFi use cases. When researching BARD, the key is not to attach a simple bitcoin label, but to understand its specific functions within the Lombard protocol and the risks it carries.
BARD and LBTC must be understood separately: the official FAQ describes LBTC as a bitcoin-representing asset for DeFi, while positioning BARD as a governance, security, and protocol utility token and explicitly stating that BARD is not backed by BTC. Holding BARD does not mean holding a quantity of bitcoin, and BARD's value cannot be derived directly from the BTC price.
How are governance and cross-chain security connected?
Official materials describe BARD functions including governance over protocol decisions, the validator set, fees, and the roadmap, as well as staking to help protect LBTC cross-chain transfers. Using these functions is different from merely holding a token on an exchange: it requires following product rules, using the correct contract, and understanding lock-up conditions.
A cross-chain system needs to be examined across several links rather than through one token: custody, cross-chain messages, validation, smart contracts, and exit paths can all affect the result. An audit or monitor for one link does not automatically show that the whole route is safe. Separate protocol claims from records that can actually be verified.
Lombard connects BARD staking with cross-chain security using Chainlink CCIP. For an LBTC transfer, identify the responsibilities for messaging, asset movement and security guarantees. Holding BARD does not itself provide an LBTC redemption right.
BARD supply, staking, and stBARD
The official FAQ gives BARD a total supply of 1 billion and explains that initial circulation and later unlocks are different concepts. A fixed total does not make market circulation fixed. Supply research requires allocation and unlock information; the launch ratio should not be treated as today's circulating ratio.
Staking BARD can provide stBARD, which represents a share of the staking vault. The official explanation says the staking guarantee is related to cross-chain security and that a problem may result in slashing. Staking is therefore not a risk-free deposit; verify the unstaking wait, share redemption method, and reward unit. This page does not show campaign annualized rates or reward multipliers that may expire.
stBARD is a share in an ERC-4626 staking vault, with documented auto-compounding. Distinguish the number of shares from the BARD redeemable per share. Requesting an exit does not immediately remove every security obligation; check the documented waiting and security periods.
A checklist for BARD and bitcoin-finance projects
Consider BARD's market volatility separately from protocol-use risks, including cross-chain dependencies, contract defects, slashing, governance changes, and liquidity. Technical understanding cannot replace an assessment of your own risk tolerance. This site does not predict investment returns from historical rewards or token amounts.
When checking material, enter products through Lombard's official documentation and beware of fake claim pages and tokens with the same name. Wallet signatures and token approvals are different from an ordinary website login; unknown permissions can lose assets. Exchange links only help identify markets that have been returned and do not validate off-site airdrop links.
Compare market price, vault-share conversion, fees and possible slashing separately. More redeemable tokens per share do not necessarily mean a profit in fiat terms, and a campaign's advertised annualized rate is not the realized result over a holding period.
BARD: spot and perpetual markets
Only markets returned by official exchange APIs are listed; a coin is not assumed to have both spot and perpetual markets on every venue.

What is the difference between spot and perpetuals?
Spot trading buys or sells the asset itself. A perpetual is a derivative position and does not deliver withdrawable tokens. Funding, margin and liquidation risks apply; availability also depends on your region and account.
Trading links include affiliate parameters. Chaintro may earn a commission when platform conditions are met; this is not a recommendation to use leverage or a promise of returns.
BARD Frequently asked questions
Are BARD and LBTC the same coin?
No. BARD is the governance and utility token; LBTC is the project's bitcoin-representing asset. BARD is not backed one-for-one by BTC.
Can BARD staking be slashed?
Yes. Official material says staking participates in cross-chain security guarantees, so staked funds may be lost when slashing conditions apply. Read the product rules in effect at the time.
Does stBARD represent equity in Lombard?
No. It is a share of the BARD staking vault, not company equity or a bitcoin-backed asset.
Does an unstaking request immediately eliminate slashing risk?
Do not assume so. Check the documented exit and security periods and when obligations end, rather than relying on the request button alone.
